BTRC to complete 2G mobile phone license renewal by September
Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) will complete the process of the Second Generation (2G) mobile phone license renewal by September this year, said BTRC sources. The 2G license renewal of the four telecom operators Grameenphone, Banglalink, Robi and Citycell has been pending for the last seven months due to the legal battles between the telecom operators and the regulator.
The mentioned operators have been providing the 2G mobile phone service without any legal license for all these years.
BTRC Chairman Maj Gen Zia Ahmed said, as the government is planning to hold the auction for the Third Generation (3G) mobile phone license on September 3 this year, it will complete the 2G license renewal by September.
“Auction for 3G licenses will be held after the completion of the 2G license renewal”, said the BTRC chairman.
He said, the BTRC lawyers are given instructions to close the legal battles between the operators and the regulator on the ground of the 2G license renewal.
