Dhaka Chamber of Commerce & Industry (DCCI) and Bangladesh Association of Software and Information Services (BASIS) jointly organized a Roundtable on "Road to entrepreneur: A Roundtable Discussion on becoming Business-owner from Freelancer" under DCCI's project of creating 2000 new entrepreneurs.
Around 35 IT Freelancers took part in the workshop. Vice President of BASIS Syed Almas Kabir, Director Shah Imraul Kaeesh, former Director of DCCI and BASIS Atique-e-Rabbani and Deputy General Manager of SME Department of Bangladesh Bank Md. Abul Bashar were present in the workshop. Generally freelancers are those who work as outsourcers and have no formal business setup. Syed Almas Kabir said that Bangladesh has a huge prospect in the IT sector. He said that the freelancers may have the opportunity of becoming entrepreneurs. He gave a power point presentation on how to make a startup business, run it successfully and turn freelancing into entrepreneurship.
Deputy General Manager of Bangladesh Bank Md. Abul Bashar thanked DCCI to take this initiative of creating 2000 new entrepreneurs. He said an entrepreneur creates employment opportunities, so we should encourage such effort. He assured of all possible support from the Bangladesh Bank in this regard. He said that if DCCI finds out potential entrepreneurs from IT & ITES freelancing sector, Bangladesh Bank will facilitate them to get finance through commercial banks. He said, Bangladesh Bank has a "BB Fund" of 600 crore taka. He mentioned that Bangladesh Bank will recommend commercial banks to finance specific interested entrepreneurs at a rate of interest below 10%.
DCCI Director Md. Shoaib Choudhury was also present. He said that IT is a promising sector in Bangladesh. We have to nourish this sector properly to get a good result from it.
