Bangladesh-Japan IT B2B Meeting held in Tokyo
27 Oct 2015
Bangladesh Association of Software & Information Services (BASIS) and Embassy of Bangladesh in Tokyo organized Bangladesh-Japan IT B2B Meeting on 26 October in Tokyo. Bangladeshi IT Professionals in Japan supported the event. 13 Bangladeshi IT companies took part with their services & products and had exclusive B2B meetings with no fewer than 25 Japanese companies.  Prominent companies like NTT Data, Fast Retailing and Qualcomm were among the Japanese companies. Beside establishing business contacts & serious engagements, some successful business deals have been concluded. The event is a showcase of the fact that Bangladeshi IT companies are actively exploring Japan as a potential niche market to establish IT as the next big sector in the land of the rising sun. On the other hand it is clearly evident that Japanese companies now have a real interest to explore the untapped potentials of the booming IT industry in Bangladesh and they are really meaning business.
Bangladesh Ambassador to Japan Masud Bin Momen, BASIS President Shameem Ahsan, JETRO Senior Director Takashi Suzuki made presentations on the occasion. BASIS Secretary General Uttam Kumar Paul, Former President of BASIS Mahboob Zaman were present there.
Thematic discussion on various IT issues took place while the exclusive B2B meeting was the highlight of the event. While welcoming the delegation of BASIS and Japanese IT companies Ambassador Momen highlighted the importance of private-public partnership in fostering trade and investment. He assured all the Japanese companies full cooperation from the government and invited them to visit Bangladesh soon to see for themselves Bangladesh's march towards realization of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's proclamation of Digital Bangladesh by 2021.
BASIS President Shameem Ahsan recalled the contribution of Japan in the development of Bangladesh and invited the Japanese companies to invest and enjoy the unique business friendly incentives offered by the present Government.
Fruitful business discussions & active engagements of all the participating Japanese & Bangladeshi companies made the event a success. This event is expected to culminate in successful business relationship between Japanese & Bangladeshi companies. The presence of many Japanese companies were overwhelming as JETRO, UNIDO and Japan Chamber of Commerce & Industries helped disseminating the information of the event. Participants hoped that cooperation and contribution for Bangladesh from their Japanese counterparts will continue in future, too.
To move ahead with the success of this event and to materialize the achievements Bangladesh Embassy will work on to follow up and will help in making further contacts. Besides, JETRO proposed to arrange a visit by Japanese IT delegation to Bangladesh next year possibly during an IT event in Dhaka. Furthermore, IT Professionals Group is planning to have a Seminar about the Japanese Market & it’s Potential in Dhaka in collaboration with BASIS. Participants concluded that with incessant engagements, proper assessment and appropriate proposition the Japan-Bangladesh IT relationship will offer immense opportunities and enormous benefits for all.
