Press Conference: Road map for executing VAS Guideline sought

A press conference was held jointly by six leading IT associations on October 3, 2012 at Conference hall of National Press club.  The six organizations are: Bangladesh Association of Software & Information Services (BASIS), Bangladesh Computer Samity (BCS), Internet Service Providers Association of Bangladesh (ISPAB), Bangladesh Association of Call Center and Outsourcing (BACCO), Content Providers and Aggregators Association of Bangladesh (CPAAB) and Bangladesh Mobile Phone Importers Association (BMPIA).


In a written statement, BASIS President AKM Fahim Mashroor said the country currently has a telecom service market worth Tk. 25,000 crore. He added that, most of this market is voice service based and that mobile content and applications comprise just 2 percent of this huge market. “In the developed and technologically advanced countries, mobile application and content comprise at least 10 percent of the total telecom service market,” he added. He also said that, local IT entrepreneurs can earn at least Tk. 2500 crore annually by developing various applications and content. In addition to this, job market for 1,00,000 young professional will be created.


Among others, BCS President M Faizullah Khan, BCS Director Mustafa Jabber, ISPAB President Aktaruzzaman Manju, BACCO President Ahmadul Hoq, CPAAB President Sayeeful Islam and BMPIA President Mostafa Rafiqul Islam spoke on the occasion.


Speakers placed a roadmap spelling out their demands for immediate implementation of Value Added Service (VAS) Guideline drafted by BTRC in January 2012, so that the telecom sector  can be propelled into the fast lane.
